Former NBA player Javaris Crittenton, already awaiting trial on murder charges, was indicted on Wednesday in Atlanta as part of a local drug ring.
According to ESPN, Crittenton was one of 13 people named in an indictment that charges members conspired to deal cocaine and marijuana across the area. The website reports Crittenton, 27, was taken into custody around 6:00 a.m. after DEA agents, federal marshals and local police all descended on his Fayetteville home.
The former first-round NBA draft pick remains best known for his gun-in-the-locker confrontation with former Washington Wizards teammate Gilbert Arenas in late 2010 that ultimately led to both of them being suspended for the bulk of the season.
Shortly thereafter, Crittenton was charged in connection with the shooting death an Julian Jones, a 22-year Atlanta mother of four. He and cousin Douglas Gamble have since been indicted on 12-counts related to the shooting that also accuses them of participating in a criminal street gang and being involved in a second shooting that occurred just five days earlier.
Prosecutors allege both shootings were in retaliation for an armed robbery committed against Crittenton and his cousin outside a southwest Atlanta barbershop in April of that year in which he they lost more than $55,000 in personal items and jewelry.
In high school, Crittenton starred alongside current NBA star Dwight Howard at Atlanta Christian Academy, where they won a state championship together in 2004. Crittenton would win another state title at Southwest Atlanta Christian in 2006 before playing for one year at Georgia Tech.
Crittenton is scheduled to have an initial court appearance early Thursday morning.
