Multiple sources have reported that the Philadelphia Eagles have acquired running back Darren Sproles from the New Orleans Saints in exchange for a 2014 fifth-round pick, taking Sproles out of the hands of the Washington Redskins, who expressed interest in grabbing the running back.

Sproles, who played in 15 games with the Saints last season and rushed for 220 yards on 53 attempts for two touchdowns and also caught 71 passes for 604 yards and two scores, spent his last three seasons with the Saints after spending five years with the San Diego Chargers.
Sproles will now look to aid Eagles coach Chip Kelly and his high-powered offense, which ranked first in rushing yards last season with 2,566 and tied for second with 19 scores on the ground as the Eagles finished first place in the NFC East, but ironically lost the wild-card playoffs to Sproles and the Saints.
Sproles wanted the Saints to release him, not trade him
Sproles will form a dynamic duo with Eagles running back LeSean McCoy, who rushed for a career-high 1,607 yards in 2013 while reaching the end zone nine times.

The Washington Redskins were apparently interested in Sproles and were looking to acquire him to help their ground game and to add him to the backfield that already includes Robert Griffin III and Alfred Morris. The Redskins were "making a push" to land Sproles, NBC Sports reported, however the Eagles swooped in and were able to work out a deal with the Saints.
Sproles may be disappointed with the deal as he was insistent that he didn't want to be traded and that he wanted New Orleans to release him, while the Saints were hoping to get something back for him.
"I want to get released. I don't want to be traded," Sproles told ESPN Wednesday. "I don't know where they would send me because I have no control over it and I want to be able to pick. The good thing is none of the teams I'm told they're talking to are terrible. It's more than two. I feel I should have more of an idea later on today."
No matter what he wanted, Sproles is now in Philadelphia with the Eagles.
