Two more days before the Feb. 23 NBA trade deadline and Carmelo Anthony's name is still being dangled in every team's trade talks. However, what seemed to be more intriguing now is the potential Carmelo Anthony trade for Kevin Love that will send the All-Star forward to Cavaliers.
Melo has partnered up with Cleveland All-Stars LeBron James and Kyrie Irving as a late replacement for Kevin Love during the recently concluded NBA All-Star game. The partnership and replacing Love may not just be temporary as the Carmelo Anthony-Kevin Love trade talks have not died down yet.
The recent injury of Kevin Love will reportedly play a major role if a Carmelo Anthony Kevin Love trade will happen. According to Fox Sport, Kevin Love's injury may make trading Love for Anthony more palatable for the Cavs.
The Melo infused Cavaliers lineup will also be more formidable than having Kevin Love in the lineup, at least offensively. Carmelo Anthony is a better scorer than Love, and having in a lineup that already features LeBron James and Kyrie Irving will be a defensive nightmare for other NBA teams.
The Cleveland Cavaliers management seem to agree with this notion as the team is reportedly exploring ways on how to make the Carmelo Anthony trade happen. According to Cleveland.com, the Cavs is exploring the possibility of using the Anderson Varejao trade exception they got last season to acquire Anthony.
The Cavs needs help if they want to stay atop the standings as the second half of the season begins. The Cleveland team cannot simply rely on LeBron and Kyrie to do the heavy lifting as both should also be well rested when playoff time comes.
A Carmelo Anthony Cleveland Cavaliers trade makes a lot of sense for the Cavs right now, especially if they want to make a repeat. However, it should also make sense for the Knicks for the trade to happen.
