Amir Khan posted on Twitter about the possible fight between him and Eight-Division World Champion Manny Pacquiao. If the deal goes smoothy, the second fight of Pacquiao after his supposed-to-be retirement will be against a former stable mate in Wildcard Boxing Club in Los Angeles. But Bob Arum does not guarantee the success of negotiations as Coach Freddie Roach and Amir Khan is currently on bad waters.
A few years ago, Amir Khan turned his back from Coach Freddie Roach after his knockout loss against Danny Garcia. Though Khan has trained with Roach even to the extent of flying to the Philippines whenever Manny Pacquiao would need to prepare for his previous fights, the separation between the former coach and trainee didn't end well. Amir Khan even stated disparaging things about Roach, Los Angeles Times reported.
So the sought after fight between Manny Pacquiao may actually go down the drain. But hopes are still in place is the fight between a former Wildcard-Undercard would ever come true. On Pacquiao's tweet, he said, "My team and I are in negotiations with Amir Khan for our next fight. Further announcement soon."
The target worth of the fight is $30 million, and a group of financial backers may be able to make it. The 38-year old WBO eight-division champion announced his retirement in April, but went back to fight against Jessie Vargas in November 2016, BBC Sports reported. Manny Pacquiao retired from boxing because he wanted to focus on politics, but went back anyway because of the money he can earn from the sport. So having a $30 million worth of fight against Amir Khan could help with his financial targets.
Manny Pacquiao lost three consecutive fights during the recent years, inclusive a knockout loss against Marquez and a unanimous decision loss against Floyd Mayweather Jr. If things go well, he will fight Amir Khan in Dubai this coming April 2017.
