Jets Owner Reveals Shocking Plan if They Are Unable to Trade Zach Wilson

Where will Zach Willson be once Aaron Rodgers returns for the New York Jets?

The 2021 second-overall pick fell out of favor in the starting rotation for the Jets with the arrival of the four-time MVP.

Rodgers got injured in the first week. He became a first option again, but his fluctuating performance did not earn him enough reason to become a QB1 for 2024.

Wilson's name has been on trade rumors since their failed 2023 campaign ended.

On Monday, team owner Woody Johnson called the 24-year-old quarterback "a valuable asset" and said they would keep him if they could not find a team to trade him with.

He made the statement a month after suggesting that Wilson find a new environment.

"He can wipe the slate clean in that way. I think that would probably be better for him," Johnson said back in February.

Propping up Wilson again

Johnson is behind Wilson a month after his statement, but not everyone is convinced of his words.

If the team does not trade him away, Johnson's statement suggests he will remain a second option.

"I feel badly about Zach in some ways because last year it would've been a great-it would've been the first time he could just sit back and watch a master at work, and he's never had that," the team owner told reporters.

"He's been in the fire from Day 1, and I think that's what he needs. He needs to be in a place where he can observe for a while. He's got the skill. He can do everything. There's a reason we drafted him No. 2 overall, and I have confidence that he'll get there at some point."
