Today at 3:00 p.m. ET, the Toronto Maple Leafs (36-24-8, 80 points) and Washington Capitals (31-27-10, 72 points) faceoff live from the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. for the third and final meeting between each other this season. The game can be live streamed here. Toronto fans can hear all of the action on TSN 1050 while Washington fans can do the same on WFED 1500.
Toronto is coming off of a successful trip through California and has won four of its last five while sitting in second place in the Atlantic Division. Washington has lost five of its last seven games and is on the outside looking in on the Stanley Cup playoffs. These teams have exchanged wins with the Maple Leafs wining 2-1 in the shootout on Nov. 23 in Toronto and the Capitals notching a 3-2 victory on Jan. 10 in Washington.
The Maple Leafs are riding high after their trip through California gave them some confidence.
"What we brought back from the West Coast is a belief that we can play with the top teams in the league," forward Joffrey Lupul told NHL.com Saturday.
The Capitals defeated the Vancouver Canucks 4-3 on Friday, but head coach Adam Oates wasn't happy with the way the team has played.
"We had a 3-1 lead," Oates said per NHL.com. "They tie it up, [Capitals goaltender Jaroslav Halak] made a couple big saves and then we got it done. We figured out a way to get it done. It wasn't a great night. Some great moments in that game, but it wasn't a great hockey game for us. But we figured out a way to get it done, which was good."
Halak may start again, and is 26-11-4 with a 2.25 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage. James Reimer will likely start for the Maple Leafs and is 11-8-1 with a 3.23 GAA and a .914 save percentage.
Toronto has been led offensively by Phil Kessel (34-39-73), James vam Riemsdyk (26-29-55) and Nazem Kadri (17-29-46) while Alex Ovechkin (45-23-68), Nicklas Backstrom (13-52-65) Joel Ward (19-19-38) and Marcus Johansson (8-30-38) have paced Washington.
The Maple Leafs and Capitals go head-to-head for the last time this season when the puck drops at the Verizon Center this afternoon in Washington, D.C.
