Tonight at 10:00 p.m. ET, the Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks faceoff live from the SAP Center in San Jose for Game 5 of their Stanley Cup Playoffs Round 1 best-of-seven series. Los Angeles looks to continue to stave off elimination after a Game 4 win at home helped them avoid a sweep while San Jose hopes to wrap up the series at home and rest up for the second round.
The Sharks won Games 1 and 2 at home by scores of 6-3 and 7-2 respectively before notching a Game 3 victory on the road with a 4-3 overtime win. The Kings got into the series with a 6-3 triumph in Game 4 and will hope to do something only three NHL teams have done in history: come back from a 3-0 deficit.
The Kings know that the Shark Tank will be raucous tonight and that San Jose comes out strong in front of their fans.
"They come out hard. They take a lot of pride in playing in front of their fans. They have great fans there and yeah, they're loud," Kings forward Jarret Stoll said via NHL.com. "You have to be ready especially for the start of the game that first 10 minutes. Everybody says it but it's true. You have to weather the storm and you have to try to take your game to them right away and get them on their heels."
Despite dominating a good portion of the series -- especially Games 1 and 2 at home -- the Sharks still fell like they need to execute better.
"There's a few things that we can do better," San Jose defenseman Brad Stuart told CSN Bay Area. "The play around both nets probably, our net and their net. Be a little more cohesive on our forecheck, make sure we're getting guys into position quicker and working together a little bit better. That will help us play a faster game."
Patrick Marleau has paced the Sharks in the series with seven points off of three goals and four assists while Joe Pavelski has six points off of two tallies and four helpers and Matthew Nieto has lit the lamp twice while adding three assists for five points.
The Kings have been led by Jeff Carter (one goal, three assists) and Anze Kopitar (four assists), who have four points each while Marian Gaborik is one of four players who has three points off of a team-high three goals.
Los Angeles netminder Jonathan Quick has let up 19 goals while stopping 147 shots through four games of the series thus far while San Jose backstop Antti Niemi has yielded 13 goals while turning aside 104 shots.
The Kings look to stay alive in the best-of-seven series while the Sharks hope to move on when these teams take the ice at the SAP Center in San Jose for Game 5 as part of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
