Tonight at 7:10 p.m. ET, the San Diego Padres (18-21) and Cincinnati Reds (17-19) take the field at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati for the first game of a three-game set. The Padres have won three straight games and embark on a six-game road trip while the Reds continue their six-game homestand after taking two of three from the Colorado Rockies to kick it off.
San Diego sends Andrew Cashner (2-5, 2.86 ERA) to the mound while Cincinnati counters with Mike Leake (2-3, 3.40 ERA).
The Reds will hope to give Leake some run support as he's been a victim of blown saves and silent bats during this young season and should have more than two wins.
"He has been pitching into the seventh or eighth inning darn near every game and doing the things he knows will make him successful," Reds manager Bryan Price said per MLB.com. "He is extremely aggressive. He holds himself accountable for what transpires. I am extremely happy with the way he is throwing the ball and competing."
Cincinnati has won 14 of their last 25 games and third baseman Todd Frazier has a career-high 11-game hitting streak while pacing the team in homers (seven) and RBIs (21).
Padres outfielder Seth Smith ranks fourth in the National League in average (.330) and on-base percentage (.419), fifth in the league in slugging percentage (.575) and tied for third in OPS (.995). San Diego second baseman Jed Gyorko leads the team in long balls (five) and RBIs (19).
Reds first baseman Joey Votto is tied for third in the MLB with 29 walks this season and outfielder Billy Hamilton is tied for third in the NL with 12 stolen bases.
The Padres and Reds open up their three-game series tonight live from the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
