Chivas Guadalajara had ambitions entering the offseason. An opportunity to rebuild and return to relevancy presented itself when it was rumored Santos Laguna's Oribe Peralta was set to join the club on a €5 million transfer. The deal was done.

Or so they thought.
Just days after the reported deal, Peralta signed with the Guadalajara's biggest rival, Club America—a move he was elated to accept (h/t to Goal). "To my new club, I want to reiterate my commitment and dedication," said an emotional Peralta via video-link from Torreon.

"I'm happy with this new challenge. I'll never forget this great stage of my life," he added.
"[Torreon] is the land of my parents and friends, the land of the team for which I always wanted to play."
Now, he will ply his trade on different soil.
The question is: Where does owner Jorge Vergara go now to return his side to relevancy?
The priority for Chivas remains adding six new players that will bolster the squad. Peralta fit the mold of the type of player the club needed to do so. Similarly, so do Leon's Luis Montes and Carlos Peña. Unfortunately for the Goats, the two are off limits to them and all other Mexican clubs according to Leon's president.

The duo are only interested in a move to Europe, and given their recent form and inclusion to Miguel Herrera's World Cup squad, that very much remains a possibility.
