Chivas Guadalajara Transfer News: Luis Ernesto Michel Close To Return, To Be Resolved 'By Thursday?'

After a busy offseason—one that has seen Angel Reyna and Fernando Arce transfer over—Chivas Guadalajara is keen on returning one of their own to Estadio Omnilife. Club president Juan Manuel Herrero has reported (via Medio Tiempo) that there has been significant progress in negotiations with goalkeeper Luis Ernesto Michel.

Herrero hopes to see the 34-year-old in the red and white of Guadalajara by Thursday.

"We've made significant progress with Luis [Michel] and his agent. It's a certainty that the matter will be resolved by Thursday," he said. "We are all clear about our ambitions to bring Luis back to Mexico [and] that he doesn't leave the country anymore, but as long as we don't finish negotiation, we can't advance with a final result."

When asked about the possibility of bringing even more reinforcements, Herrero added, "We have about three or four options. I hope that in these next few days we can move forward with two of them. At the very least, we will have one or two more signings [this year]."

Michel spent the last six months in Costa Rica, protecting the posts for eventual first division champions Saprissa. At 34, he would bring more experience and depth to the position for Guadalajara. Current keeper, Jose Antonio Rodriguez, made 17 appearances for the club last season. In them, the 21-year-old conceded an average of 1.04 goals per game (via Squawka). By comparison, though in a less quality league, Michel conceded an average of 0.81 per match.
