WWE Superstar John Cena is one of the most physically fit wrestlers on the company's roster, and he used his workouts outside of the ring to help save his father's life.

Cena recently said that he used tough love and exercise to help his father, John Cena Sr., lose weight and get in shape in order to stay healthy. Cena Jr. also mentioned that he didn't always have a good relationship with his father, and that he left home after college to pursue bodybuilding.

"Really, I just left to leave," Cena Jr. told The Huffington Post. "I needed to get away and as far away as I could."

Cena Jr. eventually made peace with his father and knew that he had to step in when Cena Sr.'s health began to decline and he started to gain weight rapidly. After doctors told Cena Sr. -- whose weight rose as high as 310 pounds -- that he could have a heart attack at any time, his son intervened.

"My dad thinks he's invincible, thinks he'll live forever. But he's like most people: give him an excuse -- the weather's bad or I'm going to this or that party -- and some fancy diet program just isn't gonna happen," Cena Jr. said.

Cena Sr. ended up working with a team of sports scientists and nutritionists to develop what became known as a 10-week BodyChange which allowed the elder Cena to eat healthy six days a week and have a cheat day on the seventh. The younger Cena helped him get through it throughout the process by staying on top of him.

By the end of the program, Cena Sr. lost 50 pounds and his blood level dropped back down to healthy levels, according to the report.

"My blood pressure was out of sight," Cena Sr. said, "and now it's down to 110/70. I'm 70 years old, and people say I look 52."

The younger Cena remains a key piece in the WWE as the face of the franchise, and the elder Cena even felt healthy enough to get involved in the action earlier this year when Randy Orton attacked him and he was carted off in an ambulance.

It was all just a part of the story in the world of the WWE, but it never could have unfolded if Cena Jr. didn't step in to help his dad through training and tough love.
