The Los Angeles Lakers are one of multiple teams interested in pursuing unrestricted free-agent Kyle Lowry, who Toronto opted to hang onto during the trade deadline while taking a risk of losing him for nothing this summer.

Lowry was placed on the trading block in February but the Raptors chose to hang onto him as the team prepared for the NBA Playoffs where they were eventually eliminated in the first round by the Brooklyn Nets in seven games.

Now, Lowry is attracting interest from the Lakers are one of a handful of teams, according to NBA.com.

Reports indicate the Lakers have emerged as a serious contender for Lowry's services, while the Miami Heat also remain an option among other teams. The Raptors do hold an advantage as they can offer Lowry the most money and highest number of years, but it remains to be seen if they'll do so and if Lowry will opt to stay.

Los Angeles has cap space and is looking for a point guard, but it remains to be seen how much the Lakers would be willing to offer Lowry since it has been expected that team brass plans on opening up its wallets to nab upper-tier free agents this offseason and next offseason.

The Lakers have a busy offseason ahead of them as the coaching search continues for the successor to Mike D'Antoni, who took a $2 million buyout after the team was leaning toward bringing him back for 2014-15 but wouldn't pick up his option on 2015-16.

Byron Scott has emerged as the favorite to land the coaching job in Los Angeles, but Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak has taken a patient and methodical approach to signing a coach. It is possible that big moves such as landing Lowry may take a backseat until a head coach is found.

The Lakers are coming off a season where they went a franchise-worst 27-55 and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2005.
