Jon "Bones" Jones and Daniel Cormier are scheduled to face off on September 27 for Jones' UFC light heavyweight championship, but the two don't seem like they can wait that long. Jones is considered the top pound-for-pound fighter in mixed martial arts, while Cormier has never lost a round of UFC competition.
Both men have something to prove in this highly anticipated fight, and both were eager to show their lack of intimidation at Monday's stare down. As soon as they were called to the stage in Las Vegas, Jones immediately glared at Cormier and pressed his forehead against his opponent's. Cormier responded with a hard shove, and that's when all hell broke loose.
Following the fracas, Jones and Cormier continued the battle-they did so behind keyboards, however.
Come on DC where was your takedown defense?

"@JonnyBones: Come on DC where was your takedown defense?" I got some td def for you. Don't ever put ur dirty face on me again. — Daniel Cormier (@dc_mma) August 4, 2014
I won't let another man get in my face and put his forehead against mine. I will react every time. @JonnyBones next time I will slap you.

I put you on your back in six seconds — Jon Bones Jones (@JonnyBones) August 4, 2014

Lol those baby punches from the bottom, I really hope you have more prepared than that for when I take you down again — Jon Bones Jones (@JonnyBones) August 4, 2014
The fight between Jones and Cormier was one that Jones wanted, but wasn't going to get initially. A rematch with Alexander Gustafsson, who gave Jones the stiffest test of his career, was the original matchup but Gustafsson had to withdraw from the card due to a torn meniscus suffered in training.
Now Jones will face a converted heavyweight and master wrestler. Cormier hasn't been shy about poking at Jones either, referring to himself as "the kid at the wrestling tournament that's always in your bracket" after thrashing MMA legend Dan Henderson in his most recent fight.
