Bellator 123 News: Cheick Kongo Speaks Out Against UFC 'They Threw Me Away After Treating Me Like S---' [VIDEO]

It has been over a year since Cheick Kongo has fought in the UFC, but the heavyweight who now competes in Bellator has now chosen to speak out against the sport's top promotion.

Kongo spent seven years competing in the UFC before his contract expired last year. The veteran went 11-6-1 and was considered to be a top-10 heavyweight contender, though he never fought for a championship. Since signing with Bellator he won the promotion's heavyweight tournament but lost a unanimous decision to reigning champ Vitaly Minakov.

Kongo will face Lavar Johnson in the co-main event of Bellator 123 on Friday. He spoke with Scifighting about his upcoming fight and had some things to say about his last moment in the UFC.

"You know some things happen unexpectedly in your career but no matter what happens you can get everything you want, everything in my career now is good," Kongo said. "But the UFC threw me away after treating me like s--- at the end. You have to be really tough, they (The UFC) just pushed all the time, push, push, push and no matter what I had to keep going."

Kongo isn't the first fighter to speak out against the UFC after being cut from the promotion. Former light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz is the most notable fighter to have left the UFC on bad terms and speak about the promotion's habits.

As for how he feels about his current promotion, Kongo had nothing but good things to say about Bellator. He hopes to get another shot at the heavyweight championship soon.

"What they're (Bellator) doing is good, and I can't wait to see what they have in store next," he said. "I would love to rematch Vitaly (Minakov), and this time around I would not over-train for him."
