Tonight at 9 p.m. ET, the Toronto Maple Leafs (6-4-1, 13 points) and Arizona Coyotes (4-6-1, nine points) take the ice at the Jobing.com Arena for the first of two meetings against each other this season live from Arizona. Toronto kicks off a two-game road trip in search of its fourth straight win while Arizona returns home after dropping three of four games on its recent road trip. The Maple Leafs took both meetings with the Coyotes last season.
The Maple Leafs have yielded just three goals during their three-game winning streak that has come off of victories against the Buffalo Sabres, Columbus Blue Jackets and Chicago Blackhawks.
"The key has been balance, there's no doubt about it," coach Randy Carlyle told the Toronto Sun.
Toronto is coming off of a 3-2 victory over the Blackhawks on Saturday and the team was lifted by three different goal-scorers.
Phil Kessel has paced the Maple Leafs this season with 14 points off of six goals and eight assists while Tyler Bozak has four tallies and six helpers for 10 points and James van Riemsdyk has lit the lamp five times to rank second on the team and is in a three-way tie for third with seven points.
While the Coyotes' recent road trip was forgettable, it salvaged the final match Saturday with a 6-5 victory over the Washington Capitals. The team notched the win on the back of two goals from captain Shane Doan and a tally by Tobias Rieder in his NHL debut that stood as the game-winner.
"It was tough going to bed [Saturday night], I'm not going to lie," Rieder told the Coyotes website. "I think I haven't really realized it. This is a dream come true."
Doan has three goals and five assists and is one of four players on Arizona with eight points while Keith Yandle has a team-best 10 points off of one marker and nine helpers thus far this season.
In the crease, Arizona is likely to turn to Mike Smith, who is 2-6-0 on the campaign with a 3.84 goals-against average and .873 save percentage.
Toronto is likely to counter with Jonathan Bernier between the pipes, who is 3-3-1 with a 2.57 GAA and a .917 save percentage.
The Maple Leafs look for their fourth straight win while the Coyotes hope a return home will bring some positive results when the lights come up tonight at the Jobing.com Arena in Arizona.
