Rajon Rondo Lakers Rumors: Kobe Bryant, Celtics Star Becoming Friends Ahead Of Free Agency?

The Los Angeles Lakers are in Boston to face the Celtics, and the biggest stars on each team caught some attention when they were seen eating breakfast together. Kobe Bryant and Rajon Rondo went out and grabbed breakfast on Thursday morning, leading to speculation about what the two were discussing.

According to media reports, the meal was purely a social visit between the two players. They had allegedly been planning to meet up for a meal when the Lakers eventually traveled to Boston for this matchup. Still, given the states of the two franchises, the chatter suggesting that it may have been more than breakfast is understandable.

Both teams are in a bit of a rebuilding mode for the time being, and they allegedly discussed a Rondo trade during the offseason, although it is not known which teams initiated the discussions. The Celtics seem to discuss moving Rondo on an annual basis, and the Lakers have reportedly had some interest in the point guard for several years now.

Rondo is set to become a free agent after the season ends, and the Lakers are believed to be interested in trying to sign the former All Star. Point guard is a bit of a weakness for the franchise following the season (and possibly career) ending injury to Steve Nash, who has largely underwhelmed even when he has been on the floor for Los Angeles.

A Rondo-to-L.A. move could be part of a big free agent splurge for the Lakers, who also will pursue Kevin Love aggressively if he decides to opt out of his current contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Those big free agent signings, combined with the return of a healthy Julius Randle and the probable lottery pick the Lakers will have in next year's draft could return the Lakers to relevance in a hurry.
