Gary Andersen shocked the college football world Wednesday night when he unexpectedly bolted from Wisconsin after just two seasons, to lead the Oregon State Beavers program instead.
The departure apparently left Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez completely shocked, and now he'll have to move quickly to find a replacement coach late in the hiring season. Unlike the opening at their Big Ten rival Michigan, there isn't really one or two clear-cut favorites for the Badgers jobs.

With that being said, here are three avenues Alvarez could pursue during his search:
Paul Chryst
He was a longtime offensive coordinator in Wisconsin, and was considered for the job back in 2012. Currently enjoying middling success as the head coach of the Pittsburgh Panthers.
Pat Narduzzi
This Michigan State DC is being touted as a hot commodity for multiple coaching openings. He's the 2013 recipient of the Broyles Award, which is meant to recognize the best assistant coach in the country. Would he move within the conference though? Would Michigan State let him?
One of Alvarez's Former Players
Alvarez isn't just an AD in a suit -- he was previously the longest tenured and winningest coach in Wisconsin history. There are a host of ex-Badgers who played under Alvarez who are now amongst the coaching ranks. They include Chicago Bears DC Mel Tucker and Seahawks DC Darren Bevell, both of whom are said to be seeking a head coaching offer on the college or pro ranks.
