Club America Transfer News: Granada Sign Miguel Layun, Immediately Loan Him to Watford

The transfer saga of Miguel Layun is officially over. According to Fox Sports, the Mexican international is leaving Club America for Granada, but not before taking a detour to England.

Per the reports, Layun will immediately be loaned out to second-division side Watford for the remainder of the 2014-15 season.

Despite the detour, the 26-year-old defender graciously thanked the club's brass for all its support.

"Thank you to the board of directors and Club America for all the support you've offered me," he wrote on Twitter. "This will be a new challenge and a dream to strive for."

Layun started his youth career with Veracruz before moving to Serie A side Atlanta. After appearing in just two matches, he returned to Mexico in 2010, joining Club America. He finished the 2014 Apertura with six goals and 20 total chances created.

Two Liga MX titles later, the World Cup veteran seemed destined for greener pastures. Unfortunately for Layun, those pastures are not in Granada.

The club currently sits in the relegation zone of La Liga with 13 points. Although it remains just one point from safety, the possibility is there for Granada to be relegated to the second division come the end of Layun's loan at Watford. By sharp contrast, Watford sit in the playoff zone of the English Championship and are primed to make a run at a return to the Premier League.

The irony.

But regardless of the division, one fact remains certain: Layun's dreams of plying his trade in Europe have finally come true.
