Philadelphia Eagles Rumors: Chip Kelly Clashing With GM Howie Roseman?

The Philadelphia Eagles missed the playoffs despite winning ten games this year, and now reports have emerged that there is some discord between head coach Chip Kelly and general manager Howie Roseman. Earlier this week, the team dismissed their vice president of player personnel Tom Gamble, whom Kelly was known to respect.

According to Delaware Online, Kelly had great things to say about Gamble after his dismissal from the team, but when asked about his relationship with Roseman, Kelly merely said that it was "good."

Kelly did note that he thinks Roseman has a knack for managing the team's salary cap well, although he did take the time to mention that he, not Roseman, is the one that has final say over the players that make the team's roster.

Jeffrey Lurie, the team's owner, insisted that Roseman would be back with the team next season. When asked about Roseman's 2015 return, Lurie answered, "Is that a question? Yes."

Part of the reason that Gamble was let go may have been his desire to be a general manager, having interviewed for the Jets job in 2013 before joining the Eagles.

"Some guys are content in their roles, but other guys want to see what the next step is, or see what the next seat is, or put the next hat on," said Kelly of Gamble. "I think Tom does an outstanding job, and if he has the opportunity to do that, then I would support him in anything. And if I can give him any help in that situation, I would."

Without Gamble, it remains to be seen whether there will be any dissension between Kelly and Roseman, who allegedly do not have the warmest of relationships. They reportedly disagree about the abilities of Nick Foles, among other things. If Kelly and Roseman prove unable to work together, there is no indication just yet which one of them would have to go.
