Colin Kaepernick's rivalry with Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson could've been very different if Chris Ault had gotten his wish.
ESPN reported that the San Francisco 49ers quarterback received one scholarship offer coming out of John H. Pitman High School in Turlock, Calif.

Nevada was the school that gave Kaepernick his shot, according to ESPN, which surveyed several quarterbacks about how they evolved into their position. But he told ESPN that the Wolf Pack asked him to switch to safety.
Kaepernick was a Rivals.com three-star recruit, as reported in a story by 49ers.com, which discovered his high school recruiting profile. Schools such as UCLA, Arizona State, Oregon State, Stanford, UTEP and Wyoming also were recruiting him, but 49ers.com made no mention of a scholarship offer from any of those schools.

Ault, the head coach at Nevada, is considered an offensive pioneer. He's credited for creating the pistol offense in which the quarterback lined up in shotgun formation and the running back lined up directly behind him, rather than off-center. It kept defenses from being able to determine the offense's strong side.
"I like Coach Ault a lot and that offense is going to be a lot of fun to play in," Kaepernick told Rivals.com after his commitment to the Wolf Pack. "I think it suits me well. It's called the Pistol and it has the quarterback in the shotgun a lot and I'll be rolling out a lot and throwing on the run which is something I enjoy doing. It's sort of similar to the spread option that Florida runs but it's unique as well."
Normally, such a request might annoy a recruit to the point of looking elsewhere to play - except that Kaepernick apparently had no other place to play. He declined the position switch, of course.
He became the first Division I quarterback to throw for more than 10,000 yards and rush for 4,000, yards, 49ers.com reported.
