Johnny Manziel-A.J McCarron Roommate Rivalry Growing: Alabama Crimson Tide QB's Tweet Takes Shot at Texas A&M QB and Heisman Trophy Winner, Report

Quarterback A.J. McCarron's coach at the University of Alabama was accused of being "the devil" earlier this year. On Wednesday night, McCarron was up to some devilish tricks of his own, at the expense of Johnny Manziel.

Deadspin.com reported that McCarron tweeted an explanation for his absence at the ESPY Awards show.

His tweet read:

"Your right I'm not at the espy's! I don't have to be at a award show to show what my team did. I'm back at school working to get another #16"

The post quickly was deleted.

USA Today surmised that the tweet was a veiled shot at Texas A&M quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel.

A comment posted on Deadspin.com said McCarron had tried to correct the grammatical mistakes on the tweet but failed before deleting the message entirely.

Manziel was at the awards show, but he and McCarron are linked together for their brief time as roommates at last weekend's Manning Passing Academy.

Manziel stirred controversy when he reportedly "overslept" when he missed a morning meeting, in which he and the Manning brothers, Peyton and Eli, mutually agreed that Manziel should leave.

Manziel later revealed that McCarron was his roommate during the Manning event. According to a Houston Chronicle blog, Manziel was asked why McCarron didn't wake him up so he wouldn't miss the meeting.

"Manziel responded that perhaps McCarron was 'doing his own thing' and he doesn't exactly know why his roomie didn't wake him in time for the morning sessions," the Chronicle blog reported.

Manziel reportedly said: "Don't pin this on him."

McCarron's Crimson Tide will visit Manziel and the Aggies on Sept. 14 on Kyle Field in College Station, Texas.

If there are fireworks that take place during that game, the fuse was light by both sides this week.
