Los Angeles Dodgers Star Yasiel Puig Sued For $12 Million By Cuban Man

Los Angeles Dodgers rookie sensation Yasiel Puig is facing a $12 million suit filed by a Cuban man who claims the star player made false allegations against him resulting in him receiving a seven-year prison sentence.

According to ESPN, attorneys for Miguel Angel Corbacho Daudinot formally filed suit in Florida charging he was subjected to “prolonged arbitrary detention and torture” after Puig and his mother testified against him in a 2010 human-trafficking case that allegedly revolves around Puig’s own flight here to the U.S.

ESPN reports the suit also names Puig and his mother as “informants” for the government. "This is not something we're going to comment about," Jaime Torres, Puig's agent, told the website. Torres added that Puig is aware of the lawsuit and has hired a lawyer.

Attorneys representing Corbacho Daudinot, who remains in Cuba, also filed similar lawsuits last year against Cincinnati Reds star closer Aroldis Chapman on behalf of several other plaintiffs.

Puig has been a huge spark for the resurgent Dodgers since making his major league debut on June 3, batting .381 with eight homers and 19 RBIs entering play this weekend. Though he had played in only a handful of games, Puig recently sparked major controversy over if he should be named to the National League All-Star team.

In the end, the 22-year-old sat out the festivities, won by the American League 3-0.
