Alex Rodriguez Steroids News: Former MVP Told To Accept MLB Plea Deal Or Face Lifetime Ban

Without the benefit of a  plea deal similar to the one agreed to by Milwaukee Brewers star Ryan Braun, Major League Baseball officials may soon seek to impose a lifetime ban against Alex Rodriguez over his involvement with Miami-based Biogenesis Clinic.

According to news reports, commissioner Bud Selig is contemplating invoking a bylaw that allows him to take disciplinary action against a player in order to preserve the integrity of the game. The New York Daily News reports the only way Selig might reconsider not using that option is if Rodriguez were to agree not to fight his pending suspension.

Under the first scenario, Rodriguez would be suspended immediately for interference in MLB’s investigation into Biogenesis and of the at least 20 players owner Anthony Bosch has alleged he once sold performance enhancing drugs to. At some point, according to The News, Rodriguez would also face suspension for violating the league’s drug abuse policy.

“MLB is armed with voluminous evidence that A-Rod bought PEDs from Biogenesis,” according to The News.  The newspaper added baseball officials are now focused on trying to get him to reach a settlement that would effectively end his major league career while allowing him to collect much of the $100 million that is remaining on his New York Yankees’ contract.
