The pressure of vying for the playoffs could be getting to the Angels and pitcher Jered Weaver, who lost his mind Tuesday night.
With the Angels up 4-0 on the Tigers in the bottom of the third inning, a routine fly ball off the bat of Anthony Gose was lost in the lights by reigning American League MVP Mike Trout and it ended up falling between the All-Star and Kole Calhoun. Detroit ended up plating four runs that frame, leading to Weaver going ballistic in the dugout.

The pitcher claimed the rant wasn't about Trout, who is once again an MVP candidate.
"I wasn't yelling at Mike or anyone in particular," Weaver said after the game, according to ESPN. "I told Mike afterward that I would never show up a teammate like that, and he's certainly saved more runs for me in the outfield than he's ever given up. I just wanted the whole team to realize that we're in the middle of a pennant race and we have to start playing better."

For the record, Trout is a plus-10 in defensive runs saved, hasn't been charged with an error this season and has five outfield assists. An inning later, Trout also made a spectacular diving catch (see second video below).
While Weaver appeared to be highly agitated, he cleared the air with Trout and manager Mike Scioscia didn't believe it would be an issue going forward.
"Jered's an emotional guy, and he just let off some steam," he said. "He realized Mike lost the ball, and they talked it out."
It's been a frustrating time for Los Angeles as it is 9-14 in August and entered Tuesday's contest against Detroit on a four-game losing streak. The Angeles (64-61) managed to leave Comerica Park with an 8-7 victory to end the skid and are five games behind the Astros (70-57) in the AL West. L.A. is also a half-game back in the crowded AL wild-card race.
Weaver earned the win to improve to 6-9 on the season despite yielding six runs in 5.2 innings.
Trout is second in the AL with a .976 OPS and is usually known for his solid defense, but even the reigning MVP can't do it all.
