Manchester City Transfer News: Kevin De Bruyne $91 Million Transfer Causes Problems For Manuel Pellegrini

Manchester City and Wolfsburg are close to completing a $91 million transfer for Kevin De Bruyne. The Citizens have gone as far as putting a private jet on standby for the Belgian attacker, per Ed Aarons.

It will be his second stint in the Premier League, the first coming with Chelsea in 2013. De Bruyne hardly featured under Jose Mourinho that year. The Portuguese manager went as far as questioning De Bruyne's mental fortitude.

Barcelona Dismiss Neymar, Manchester United Rumors

"He needed a team where he knows he can play every game," Mourinho said in May, per ESPN FC. "He needs to know that he is important. He did not want a team where he thinks, 'Am I playing or not?' He needs that trust, he needs that quality.

"He needs that security."

Unfortunately for De Bruyne, the same question Mourinho had can be asked at Manchester City.

Is he playing or not?

Manuel Pellegrini has a gluttony of talent at his disposal in Manchester. David Silva and Raheem Sterling are all but guaranteed minutes in the club's 4-2-3-1, leaving De Bruyne, Samir Nasri, Jesus Navas, Yaya Toure and Rony Lopes scrapping for one place.

One simple solution can look as follows:

But moving Toure to a less-favorable DM role leaves City's defense paper thin. The 32-year-old is better suited playing forward, with Fabian Delph and Fernandinho providing cover. This is the dilemma Pellegrini will be forced to deal with should the transfer be complete.

There's no arguing De Bruyne is a remarkable talent, just not the one Manchester City need right now.
