UNC P.J. Hairston, Suspended Indefinitely Vows To Play For Tar Heels This Season

North Carolina junior guard P.J. Hairston says he has every intention of taking the floor for the Tar Heels this season.

It’s been an offseason of hard knocks for Hairston, who on June 5th was charged with marijuana possession and driving without a license, according to the DailyTarHeel.com. The website adds those charges were later dropped, but a few weeks later Hairston was spotted driving a 2013 Yukon rented by Haydn “Fats” Thomas, a convicted felon with a history of drug and gun related convictions.

Now Hairston just wants to put all the bad publicity behind him and be allowed to do what he does best. Though he’s been on indefinite suspension since Aug. 18, Hairston told the DailyTarHeel.com, “Yeah, I’ll be on the court. I’m not sure how long I’ll have to sit out. I haven’t found out yet, but whatever it is I’m ready for it.”

UNC team spokesman Steve Kirschner later told the website there is no update on Hairston’s playing status.

“I just have to prepare myself mentally,” Hairston added to the website. “Just try to keep myself around positive people for the most part, then just having someone in my ear talking to me and giving me advice. Everybody sees me playing in the Dean Dome.”
