Nick Diaz Weed Suspension: Ronda Rousey Calls Out Hypocrisy Of Anderson Silva Steroid Ban From NSAC [VIDEO]

UFC fans may not ever see controversial fighter Nick Diaz in the octagon again following a historic five-year suspension handed down for his third positive marijuana test. Diaz was popped in his post-fight test for smoking marijuana a week before he lost to Anderson Silva on Jan. 31. Ronda Rousey, the UFC's current biggest star, was not happy with the Nevada State Athletic Commission's ruling.

"It's so not right for him to be suspended five years for marijuana," Rousey said. "I'm against them testing for weed at all. It's not a performance-enhancing drug. It has nothing to do with athletic competition. It's only tested for political reasons," Rousey said. She then torched the NSAC for going light on punishing Silva for testing positive for steroids after the fight, which was a total farce in retrospect. Silva was suspended for one year.

"Nick is a very close and dear friend of mine, so of course I'm going to defend him, but it's so unfair if one person tests for steroids that could actually hurt a person and the other person smokes a plant that makes him happy and he gets suspended for five years."

Rousey does not buy that the NSAC tests for marijuana as a safety measure to ensure fighters don't put themselves at risk either.

"They say, 'Oh, it's only for your safety to keep you from hurting yourself because you're out there.' Why don't they test for all of the other things that could possibly hurt us?"

UFC president Dana White also accused the NSAC of having ulterior motives for handing down such a lengthy suspension to Diaz, who, at 32 years old, may have to think about another career.

"I would imagine if they suspended him for five years and [fined him] $150,000, it's more than just the marijuana," White said. "That just doesn't make sense."

In fact, the five-year suspension was less than one person, who wanted a lifetime ban, had argued for.
