NFL Survivor Pool Strategy 2015 Week 4: Three Best Bets So You Can Make It To Next Sunday

Survivor pools are fun, and they seem easy, but it’s actually very hard to last longer than a few weeks. For those who have never done a survivor pool, the rules are simple. Each week you pick one team to win outright—usually, survivor pools do not use spreads. Once you’ve picked that team, they’re unavailable to you for the rest of the season.

These are three picks that will keep you alive.

The Sure Thing: COLTS over Jaguars

This is not an overreaction to the Jaguars pounding vs. New England. Everyone knew that was coming. The Colts woke up offensively in the fourth quarter vs. Tennessee on Sunday, and Andrew Luck reminded the world why he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.

Draft Kings Best Buys For Week 4

He’s going to chuck the rock a ton this week, and the Colts have wisely realized that Andre Johnson is shot. Now that they’re rolling with T.Y. Hilton, Donte Moncrief, and Phillip Dorsett I have to think they’ll walk all over the Jags.

The Next Best Thing: BENGALS over Chiefs

The Bengals are for real. They’re not 3-0 because of their schedule, or a fluky stretch from Andy Dalton. They have premier weapons at running back, wide receiver, and tight end, a competent quarterback, and a defense that’s short on stars, and long on production. FootballOutsiders.com has pegged them as the No. 7 defense vs. both the run and the pass.

The Chiefs’ defense gets a lot of love but it was shredded by the Packers Monday night, and, honestly, the Bengals’ offense right now is a lot for any defense of any quality to handle. At home, this seems like a pretty safe pick.

If You Want To Get Cute: CHARGERS over Browns

The Browns are a bit of a mess right now, which is perfect for a Chargers team that has talent, but is a little soft. The San Diego D is 20th against the run and 22nd against the pass, which is why it’s ideal that the Browns, who can’t run or pass, are coming to the Chargers. If you like decent home teams vs. very bad road teams, this is right up your alley. But be advised—you’re taking a risk.
