Rory McIlroy Update: Engaged No. 3 Fixes Big Weakness In Golf Game -- His Eyesight [VIDEO]

Rory McIlroy saw the light about the mistake he would be making by marrying Caroline Wozniacki in 2014, broke off the engagement and went on to finish the golf season at No. 1 in the world.

He now can see clearly again in 2015, hoping that it'll help him regain that No. 1 ranking in 2016; only this time it has nothing to do with his love life.

McIlroy, who confirmed his second engagement, this time to Erica Stoll earlier in the week, had laser eye surgery and said he's noticed an immediate and dramatic change, according to Reuters.

He said he'd been having problems for years, but now he could be an even better golfer.

"It was successful," McIlroy said of the surgery during an interview at a charity event McIlroy and Stoll attended in Belfast, Ireland, Reuters reported.

"I had it (Wednesday) morning in Dublin and I woke up and it was like a whole new world, it's incredible," he told the BBC. "I've struggled with my eyesight now for 10 to 15 years. I've had contact lenses and glasses and now I don't have to worry about any of that. I think it should hopefully improve me on the golf course and make everything a little bit sharper, that's another positive to take into next year."

McIlroy was limited to 12 tournaments in 2015 in part because of an injury he suffered during the summer when he tore ligaments in his ankle playing soccer. The injury forced him to miss the British Open.

He won two events this past season, finished fourth at the Masters, tied for ninth at the U.S. Open and 17th at the PGA Championship. The Irish star was more or less a spectator while new No. 1 Jordan Spieth and No. 2 Jason Day fought for golfing supremacy.

McIlroy got engaged to Wozniacki on New Year's Eve, 2013, only to break up with the Danish tennis star four months later, over the phone. Despite the criticism he received for the way he handled the split with Wozniacki, he turned his season around with wins at the British Open and PGA Championship.

So if his improved eyesight doesn't help him overcome Spieth and Day in 2016, he always has a fallback plan available. He could just break up with Stoll and find out whether that sparks his play.

It worked once before.
