Josh Freeman To Minnesota Vikings, Christian Ponder Benched? [VIDEO]

The Minnesota Vikings have won out in the Josh Freeman sweepstakes, signing the former Tampa Bay starting quarterback to a one-year deal.

According to Yahoo! Sports, Freeman picked the Vikings over Buffalo and Oakland, though he turned down the a two-year offer from the Vikes. The website reports Freeman is intent on once again being a starting NFL quarterback and wanted to test the waters in Minnesota before committing long-term to a franchise that already boasts Christian Ponder and Matt Cassel.

A native of Kansas City, sources told Yahoo! the Vikes are also convinced Freeman may feel more comfortable playing in the Midwest than he did in Tampa, where he spent his first five NFL seasons and openly feuded with management this season.

The Bucs released the 25-year-old vet last week after he lost his starting job and reportedly missed several team meetings and other obligations. The one-year deal with Minnesota allows Freeman to again become a free agent at the end of the season and once more test his value on the open market.

Freeman's best season in Tampa Bay came in 2012, when he passed for 4,065 yards and 27 touchdowns. His 80 career touchdown passes also ranks first on the Bucs' All-Time list.
