Dallas Cowboys Free Agent Rumors: Team Could Be Among Several Interested In ... Greg Hardy [VIDEO]

If teams expressed interest in Johnny Manziel, delaying the Cleveland Browns release of the embattled quarterback, it should come as no surprise that several teams are interested in embattled defensive end Greg Hardy.

That's the news coming from Bleacher Report's Jason Cole, based on two anonymous sources.

Cowboys Would Consider Signing Johnny Manziel If He Gets His Life Back In Order

Even more astounding is the possibility that the Cowboys might reassess their interest in the player that caused them the most headaches in 2015.

"According to two sources I've talked to about defensive end Greg Hardy, who played with the Dallas Cowboys last season, several NFL teams are currently interested in signing Hardy but want to stay under the radar, so to speak, because they don't want to attract the attention that would bring in with a player like Hardy who had a troubled season in Dallas and came off a troubled time when he was with the Carolina Panthers," Cole reported.

Jerry Jones' Reliance On High-Risk Players Could Be Destroying Cowboys

Cole added that free agent Chris Long's signing with the Patriots placed Hardy among the top free-agent defensive ends available.

The Cowboys were trying to sign Long, but now that he's gone, the possibility of a second --- or would be a third? --- chance in Dallas was broached.

"The final issue with Hardy is whether some team is going to be willing to tolerate what he brings to the table," Cole said. "Most teams want to have some kind of control over him; they are interested in getting a two-year contract with Hardy if they do sign him. But that's expected to include a lot of incentives to keep Hardy wanting to work as hard as possible."

Hardy had 35 tackles, six sacks and one interception in 12 games with the Cowboys after he came off a four-game suspension for his domestic violence incident as a member of the Carolina Panthers in the summer of 2014 that caused him to miss all but one game.

At least, Hardy has more of a track record, football-wise, than Manziel to attract teams' interest as a free agent. But it's still amazing how quickly character is discarded for the sake of talent.

Dallas could be taking the biggest risk of all.
