Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is not taking Amir Khan lightly, but the reigning World Boxing Council middleweight champion is confident that he will retain his title in their scheduled showdown on May 7 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Alvarez, who owns a 46-1-1 record with 32 knockout victories, has already started training for the first defense of his title, which he won via unanimous decision against Miguel Cotto in November last year.

While he is tagged as heavy favorite to win over his challenger, Alvarez said that he is very focused on his preparation. He is confident of winning against the British boxing superstar but he knows he has no room for complacency, saying that Khan is a "dangerous" opponent.
"I am training very hard, and I am fully focused to win this May 7th in order to defend my WBC middleweight championship," Alvarez said via BoxingScene. "Amir Khan is a talented boxer, but I will be the winner on May 7. I am not overconfident, as Khan represents a perceptible danger in the ring."

Eddy Reynoso, Canelo's trainer, also confirmed that the Mexican boxing superstar is off to a great start in training camp, which, he said, started even before the press tour for the showdown began. According to him, they are taking Khan seriously, but insisted that Alvarez has always been very dedicated in preparing for all of his fights.
"We are taking the fight against Amir Khan very seriously and want to be prepared for anything on May 7," Reynoso said. "We expect Canelo to train very effectively as he always does. He is very dedicated and serious about the sport."
Khan, who holds a 31-3 record with 19 knockout victories, is coming off a unanimous decision win against former light welterweight world champion Chris Algieri in May last year. Before defeating Algieri, the 29-year-old Bolton, England native also won against Devon Alexander and Luis Collazo in 2014.
