NFL Trade Rumors 2016: Dallas Cowboys Eyeing to Deal for Carson Wentz?

The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly eyeing Carson Wentz and will consider moving up in the 2016 NFL Draft to acquire the North Dakota State quarterback.

According to Benjamin Allbright of AM 1340, the Cowboys are looking to draft a quarterback this year, who could backup and eventually replace Tony Romo in the near future. The Cowboys are reportedly thinking of giving up assets to nab the No. 1 pick, which they will use to draft Wentz.

The Cowboys have been searching for a quarterback since the offseason started after Romo was slowed down by injuries over the past few years. While Wentz is considered as the best quarterback in the draft, most analysts are convinced that he is not worthy of the No. 1 pick.

If the Cowboys fail to move up in the draft, Allbright added that the Cowboys will still look for a quarterback in the second round, naming Michigan State QB Connor Cook and NC State signal-caller Jacoby Brissett as possible targets for Dallas.

NFL insider Todd Archer of ESPN also reported that the Cowboys have scheduled pre-draft workouts for at least six quarterback in the coming days.

Wentz, Cook and Brissett are scheduled to visit Valley Ranch in the coming weeks. Jared Goff of Carolina, Paxton Lynch of Memphis and Christian Hackenberg of Penn State are also set to visit the Cowboys before the draft.

The Cowboys have been linked to several quarterbacks this offseason despite the fact that team officials are convinced Romo can still be an effective starter in the next 4-5 seasons.

Dallas were linked to a possible deal with former Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III, who eventually signed a two-year, $15 million contract with the Cleveland Browns. They were also mentioned as possible landing spot for Johnny Manziel, but Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones denied rumors linking them to the troubled quarterback.
