Boxing News 2016: Canelo Alvarez Will Be Ready to Face Manny Pacquiao, Miguel Cotto [VIDEO]

Saul "Canelo" Alvarez said that he is open to facing Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto after his upcoming fight against Amir Khan on May 7 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Alvarez is continuously being linked to Pacquiao after Top Rank Promotions CEO Bob Arum said that he thinks the Filipino boxing icon will be willing to move up to 155 pounds to face Canelo.

When asked about the talks about a potential showdown with Pacquiao, Alvarez told Fighthype that he is focused on his World Boxing Council middleweight title defense against Kahn but added that he will be ready for the bout if the opportunity comes.

"I think right now we are 100 percent focused on this fight," Alvarez said of his bout with Khan. "It's an important fight. We're focused and whatever comes in the future, we will also be ready for that."

Chepo Reynoso, Canelo's trainer, also said in a separate interview with Fighthype that a fight against Pacquiao, who is considered as one of the best fighters in boxing history, will be big for Alvarez.

"I think the people would like the fight and we would also," Reynoso said of the Pacquiao-Canelo fight. "We know Pacquiao has made history in boxing so a fight with him would be interesting."

Meanwhile, Alvarez, who owns a 46-1-1 record with 32 knockout victories, also responded to critics who are saying that his victory against Cotto during their WBC middleweight title fight in November was a fluke.

Alvarez, who ran away with a unanimous decision win over Cotto, said that some people are just trying to make excuses. And if the opportunity presents itself, Alvarez said he is open to facing Cotto for the second time because the Puerto Rican superstar deserves another shot at him.

"I think the fighter he's been and what he's accomplished in this sport, he deserves a rematch," Alvarez said of Cotto. "But if not, we are on our own path and fighting our fights, and in the future God will say if we fight again."

Cotto, who has a 40-5 record with 33 victories by knockout, is reportedly planning to return to the welterweight division and is being linked to Mexican boxing warrior Juan Manuel Marquez.
