Tonight at 7:00 p.m. ET, the New Jersey Devils (3-7-4, 10 points) and Philadelphia Flyers (3-6-1, seven points) faceoff for the second of four times this season live from Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The two bottom dwellers in the Metropolitan Division come into play looking for goals as the Flyers rank 30th in the league with 1.5 goals per game while the Devils rank 28th with 1.86. Philadelphia is at the very bottom of the division and is 13 points shy of the first place Pittsburgh Penguins while New Jersey enters in seventh place and is 12 points back. The Devils are 13th in the Eastern Conference while the Flyers rank 15th.
Both teams' lack of scoring was apparent Saturday as the Flyers topped the Devils 1-0 in New Jersey. Philadelphia head coach Craig Berube has been changing his lines, looking to find one that works consistently.
"At some point they need to start producing," Berube said per NHL.com. "I think guys in and out of the lineup with injury, we had to move guys around a little bit. These guys are familiar with each other. They've played well together before. I expect them to get out of it and start playing well."
New Jersey, meanwhile, hopes to have Travis Zajac (1-3-4) return after he injured his ankle at practice last week.
The Devils have been led by Jaromir Jagr, who has a team-high 10 points on three goals and seven assists while Marek Zidlicky has nine points on one tally and a team-high eight helpers and Damien Brunner (four goals, three assists) and Patrik Elias (three goals four assists) each have seven points. Elias will be sidelined with a concussion.
Four players have paved the way for Philadelphia with just seven points in Vincent Lecavalier (5-2-7), Brayden Schenn (3-4-7) Steve Downie (1-6-7) and captain Claude Giroux (0-7-7), who has yet to find the back of the net. Downie is out with a concussion.
Steve Mason has started 11 of 15 games for the Flyers and has posted a 3-7-1 record with a 2.37 goals-against average and a .925 save percentage. It is possible Ray Emery will man the crease for Philadelphia as he shut out New Jersey last time out and was 5-3-2 with a 2.08 GAA and a .928 save percentage against the Devils in his last 10 games going into Saturday's game.
Martin Brodeur (2-3-2) and Corey Schneider (1-4-2) have each appeared in seven games this season while Brodeur has a 2.68 GAA with a .888 save percentage and Schneider has a 2.27 GAA and a .907 save percentage.
Two teams in need of scoring and points will go head-to-head tonight when the puck drops on the Devils and Flyers at Wells Fargo Center tonight in Philadelphia.
