Because of the recent executive order of Donald Trump, Iran is forced to leave two US basketball players in Dubai. Now, they are stuck in limbo as they cannot find a way to get back to their team in Iran.
The athletes involved are Joseph Jones and J.P. Prince, former Texas and Tennessee stars respectively. The two are stranded in Dubai after their team gave them the privilege of a vacation.
The Effects of Trump's Policies
Just last Friday, Trump had released an order that bars citizens coming from seven Muslim countries from entering the U.S. These banned countries include Iran. According to New York Post, these two unfortunate players are stranded, and that for now, there is now way that they can go back to Iran to play for the Azad University Tehran team.
Eric Fleisher, an agent of the team says that they are indeed experiencing serious hardship. Reports also suggest that the people involved are now very pessimistic about the comeback of the two players.
Trump's Policies Contributes to Waste of Talent
The two are also said to lose a big amount of money which is around six figures. Fleisher also adds that they are currently waiting official information from the team itself.
According to Washington Post, the two are unlikely to finish this year's season playing in Iran. With this being said, it really is not a good thing to be out of the job. The second thing is that they can't even get their things back.
Jones plays as the team's center. He has also played for the Rockets during the 2008 Summer League.
He thus has experience playing globally. But though it is still their first time playing in Iran, the two are in to meet the end of it all. Meanwhile, J.P. Prince is Tayshaun Prince's cousin. He played with Arizona and Tennessee. He furthered his international career as he played in Turkey, China and Poland.
Hopefully, something good happens to the two, because their talent surely is a big waste if it ends up like this.
