Georges St-Pierre Next Fight News: Johny Hendricks Calls Out GSP, Promises To Beat Former UFC Champ’s ’Face In’

Johny Hendricks finally snapped out of a three-fight funk, beating Hector Lombard in his first fight as a UFC middleweight. After turning in his most impressive performance in almost three years, the former welterweight champion confidently called out Georges St-Pierre, saying that a rematch between the two makes perfect sense.

Johny Hendricks lost a controversial split decision to then defending welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre at UFC 167. After the French Canadian retired, Hendricks won the vacant title at UFC 171 against Robbie Lawler. And while it has been a rough stretch for John Hendricks after winning the title, his first win at 185 appears to have given him his confidence back.

I would just say sorry for the Canadians – I’m going to have to beat his face in, definitely, if he comes to 185,” Johny Hendricks said during the post-fight presser. As noted by Bleacher Report, the All-American wrestler also said that the rematch with Georges St-Pierre was a fight he has long been looking for. St-Pierre recently re-signed with the UFC after a lengthy contract dispute.

A number of names have been floated around since Georges St-Pierre’s signing was made official. UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping appears to be the frontrunner, while the winner of the welterweight championship rematch between Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson, as well as Nick Diaz, have also been mentioned by UFC president Dana White.

As pointed out by retired UFC and WEC fighter Danny Downes in an MMA Junkie article, much of the focus on Georges St-Pierre’s return has been on the business aspect, with a good number of people pointing out that GSP’s return could be the answer to the UFC’s current lack of star power. The UFC has struggled with pay-per-view numbers so far in 2017; and with Conor McGregor and Ronda Rousey’s future in question thus far, there is no other clear big draw on the UFC’s current roster.
