"Pokemon Go" was once a worldwide phenomenon that drove hordes of players in a frenzy just to catch a digital monster. The trend may have died down a bit but developer Niantic Labs still has more in store for the once massive app.
Despite being released in 2016, rare monsters have yet to make an appearance on "Pokemon Go." 2 generations worth of monsters were already released but legendary Pokemons are still not available for the app.
Niantic Labs' CEO John Hanke says that players can expect legendary Pokemons to arrive in "Pokemon Go" by the end of 2017. In an interview on Wired, the CEO says that legendary Pokemons from the first generation, namely Mew Mewtwo, Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres will certainly be available this year. The CEO however, did not mention the release of legendary Pokemons from the 2nd generation.
The long development process for the legendary Pokemons for "Pokemon Go" might be attributed to other updates Niantic Labs is developing for at the moment. Dual Shockers reports that Niantic Labs is still busy perfecting the game's trading aspect.
According to the report, "Pokemon Go" product manager Tatsuo Nomura says that it is important for mobile games to not become something that lets players remain idle. He says that the game shouldn't allow players to seamlessly trade Pokemons with someone across the globe. Nomura does not want the game to become an online experience where players can exchange virtually.
Instead, Niantic Labs would want "Pokemon Go" players to meet up personally and trade Pokemons rather than doing in online. The developer has been so far successful in making their game more active as Cnet reports that players walk an extra 2000 steps daily.
Then again, these long development process for "Pokemon Go" might hurt them in the long run. If these essential updates will take a long time before it gets released, players might have moved on and forget about the game.
