Carolina enters having lost four straight road games while Detroit has lost seven games in a row and hasn't won since Nov. 2 and are winless in their last eight games at Joe Louis Arena. The last time these teams met, the Red Wings defeated the Hurricanes 4-3 in overtime on Oct. 4 in North Carolina.

Detroit suffered its latest set-back on Tuesday when the team lost to the Nashville Predators 2-0.

"It's just a frustrating time for us right now. It doesn't seem like anything's going our way out there, but you've got to go out there and work for your breaks," Jimmy Howard said per NHL.com.

Howard is 5-6-6 with a 2.64 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage thus far this season.

Carolina got its goalie back Monday when Cam Ward returned to the crease for the first time since being sidelined with a groin injury, but the team lost 4-1 to the Boston Bruins.

"It felt really good to get back in the net. Dealing with injuries is not an easy thing. I hate losing, but in the second and third periods, I felt a lot better about my game," Ward said after the game, according to NHL.com.

Ward is 2-3-3 this season with a 2.84 GAA and a .910 save percentage so far this season.

The Hurricanes have been led by Eric Staal, who has 12 points off of five goals and seven assists while Nathan Gerbe has five tallies and five helpers for 10 points and Alexander Semin and Jeff Skinner have each found the twine three times while adding six assists. Skinner may return to the ice tonight after being activated from the injured reserve while Semin (concussion) remains sidelined.

Henrik Zetterberg has paced the Red Wings with 23 points off of 10 goals and 13 assists while Pavel Datsyuk has found the back of the net 11 times and added 11 helpers for 22 points and Daniel Alfredsson has three goals and 11 assists for 14 points, but missed Tuesday's game with a groin injury.

The Hurricanes look to end their road woes while the Red Wings will try to get a rare home win when these two teams go head-to-head at Joe Louis Arena tonight in Detroit.
