The New England Patriots have removed Joe Mixon from the draft board because of his involvement in an assault incident back in 2014, as reported by ESPN. According to Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald, the New England Patriots would not even consider drafting Joe Mixon under any circumstances in this year's NFL draft.
The New England Patriots are in need of a running back and looking to add one in the upcoming NFL draft. Despite that, the New England Patriots stand firm on not drafting Joe Mixon.
Joe Mixon has been embroiled in controversy as a 2014 video of him punching a woman in the head at a Norman, Oklahoma sandwich shop surfaced last year. Joe Mixon pled guilty to misdemeanor assault and, as a result, was suspended for the rest of the 2014 season.
The removal of Joe Mixon on the draft board is consistent with the New England Patriots' owner Robert Kraft's stance on players with histories of domestic violence against women. Adrian Peterson is one example as the New England Patriots won't even discuss signing him, according to a report from CBS Boston.
"While I believe in second chances and giving players an opportunity for redemption, I also believe that playing in the NFL is a privilege, not a right," Robert Kraft said. "For me, personally, I believe that privilege is lost for men who have a history of abusing women."
