Former Boxing Champ David Haye Confirms UFC Wants Him to Fight Jimi Manuwa

Former cruiserweight and heavyweight boxing champion David Haye is coming off a loss to Tony Bellew earlier this month. However, it seems like Haye is already looking forward to his next opponent and it could be against UFC star Jimi Manuwa.

In a recent online question and answer portion with his fans online, David Haye was asked if he is willing to fight MMA fighter and fellow Englishman Jimi Manuwa. He noted that he is open to a potential boxing match and he even claimed that that the UFC already contacted him about it.

"We have heard from Manuwa's management and UFC so it is something that we are looking at at the moment. Obviously, it is a little way off being confirmed. But it is a fight that would unify a lot of the fans from both UFC and boxing and make a mega event," Haye said, via Boxing News Online.

It should be noted that Jimi Manuwa challenged David Haye to a match to see who the hardest-hitting fighter in London is. The light heavyweight contender issued it after defeating Corey Anderson at UFC Fight Night 107 in London last March 18 at the O2 Arena in London.

Manuwa proposed that the boxing match between him and Haye happen in the undercard of the rumored Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Conor McGregor showdown later this year. The 37-year-old MMA star weighed exactly 205 pounds in his latest fight while Haye tipped the scales at 225 pounds.

David Haye and Jimi Manuwa can fight at heavyweight since the weight limit for that boxing class is at 200 pounds. According to MMA Mania, the UFC can also make the dream match between Anderson Silva and Roy Jones Jr.

The prospect of MMA fighters and boxers going against each other inside a boxing ring has been talked about since last year. The last time an MMA fighter fought a boxer happened in 2010 when Randy Couture defeated James Toney via submission inside the Octagon.
