'Fable 4': Why Microsoft Should Develop Sequel, Launch Alongside Xbox Scorpio

The PS4 is currently having a banner year for exclusives. In just 3 months, the console has released several exclusive first party games that are more than what the Xbox has released the previous year. It's the reason why Microsoft is already making a successor to the Xbox One in and effort to reverse their fortunes. But beyond a new console, Microsoft must also release new exclusive games along with it. And the best game to release with the Xbox Scorpio is "Fable 4."

Open world games are slowly becoming the trend in today's gaming culture. The Witcher 3 is regarded as one of the best open world games at the time of its release. But now, in a span of a month, Horizon Zero Dawn and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild were released and pushed the boundaries of what games are capable of. The new Zelda game is now one of the highest rated games of all time and Horizon Zero Dawn has the best sales for a new IP. Meanwhile, Microsoft is sitting quietly without any open world game to boot. Fortunately for them, the Fable franchise is long overdue for a new game and "Fable 4" could be the start of a new era.

The Fable series once one of the banner exclusives for the Xbox but has since been inactive for several years now. Its last game was in the last console generation. Fable Legends was supposed to be the game for Xbox One but is now canceled. Xbox needs "Fable 4" now more than ever.

Microsoft has been having a tough time with the Xbox One with sales that are half of its rival the PS4. One of the reasons for the disparity is the lack of first party games. Xbox has solely relied on their old franchises that include, Halo, Gears of War and Forza to drive their exclusives. But so far, those aren't enough especially compared to Sony's lineup. Microsoft needs to look back in its past games and see that there is potential in "Fable 4."
