Tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET, the Toronto Maple Leafs (14-9-1, 29 points) and Pittsburgh Penguins (15-9-1, 31 points) hit the ice live from the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh in the second of three meetings against each other this season. Pittsburgh and Toronto enter play separated by just two points atop the Eastern Conference standings. The first time these two teams faced off, the Maple Leafs defeated the Penguins 4-1 on Oct. 26 in Toronto.
The Penguins are coming off of a 4-3 loss in overtime against the Boston Bruins on Monday in a game where captain Sidney Crosby scored with 0.3 seconds left in regulation to tie the game, but the Bruins eventually converted in the extra frame to end the comeback.
"Sid buried that one with a second left, so that's huge going into OT," forward James Neal told NHL.com. "We thought we deserved a little better, but we can't keep saying that; we got to do it."
Crosby (13-18-31) leads the Penguins in scoring while Evgeni Malkin has four goals and 23 assists for 27 points and Chris Kunitz has found the twine 11 times and added 11 helpers for 22 points.
The Maple Leafs are coming off of their most lopsided loss of the season after the team fell 6-0 against the Columbus Blue Jackets 6-0 Monday after James Reimer let in six goals off of 21 shots.
"I don't really have much to say, don't really have much to offer," Reimer said via NHL.com. "It just wasn't my night. You'll have nights like that where the puck just eludes you. As hard as you work and as much as you try and bear down, it just doesn't work out sometimes."
The Leafs turn to Jonathan Bernier tonight, who is 8-6-1 with a 2.16 goals-against average and a .934 save percentage. The Penguins have gone with Marc-Andre Fleury in 21 of the team's 25 games this year and he is 13-7-1 with a 2.05 GAA and a .919 save percentage thus far this season.
Fleury will look to stop a Toronto offense that has been led by Phil Kessel (12-9-21) and Mason Raymond (8-9-17).
