Will Muschamp isn't going anywhere after the 2013 season.
Just ask him.
USA TODAY Sports is reporting that Muschamp believes he'll remain coach as the Florida Gators in 2014. He also thinks the Gators can reach the SEC championship game in 2014.
"I don't believe we're that far off,'' USA TODAY Sports reported Muschamp as saying." Regardless of the results Saturday afternoon (against Georgia Southern, which Florida lost), which is all disappointing for everyone, starting with me, I just don't feel like we're that far off. I think there's some key components for our football team that aren't playing for us right now. And we're very thin in some areas. And it is what it is.
"I'm not making excuses, that's just the facts, and it's real. And again, I think we've got a good staff and I think that we've got a really good football team going into - they're fighting their butt off this Saturday, first of all, and heading into spring. And I'm excited about that. I'm excited about this Saturday, and our guys getting out and competing again.''
Muschamp has reason to feel confident about his status. Two weeks ago, Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley announced on the school's website that he is "1,000 percent convinced that Will Muschamp is the guy to lead this football program."
"Nothing has changed in what we feel about Will Muschamp from the day we hired him," Muschamp said.
Florida president Bernie Machen also threw his support by Muschamp after the Gators' losing streak reached for games.
"I want the Gator Nation to know that I have full confidence in Coach Muschamp and his leadership of the football program," Machen said, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
That was prior to the Gators' 26-20 loss to the Football Championship Subdivision last weekend, extending Florida's skid to six games and knocking it from postseason contention. The Gators face undefeated Florida State and are a 27-point underdog.
An embarrassing loss to the rival Seminoles could test the statements three weeks earlier by Florida's athletic director and president.
