MLB Teams on the Lookout for Non-Tender Players as Deadline Looms

Off-season starts to kick again as Major League Baseball (MLB) non-tender deadline marks December 2 as the final date for the teams to sign contracts for the arbitration and pre-arbitration players for the 2021 season.

A non-tender player is often considered a player who was waived by a team to make him/her a free agent in the next season. In some cases, a team might consider prioritizing his contribution to the team if he is worth the market value.

Moreover, the non-tender player could also be unloaded from the team containing 40 players. Oftentimes, they are the players who have not completed games due to injury. In some cases, these are the players who underperformed during their on-going contract with the team.

MLB braces for the possibility of winning and losing players at the expense of sportsmanship and quality game as the competition limits talents, who can compete at an extreme level.

The evident increase in the number of non-tendered players from 2015-2019 proves that the league is more reliant on looking for the best only - and - overlooking those who want to improve.

The date for the decision among teams is fast approaching, and teams can only scout current players for the meantime or sign cheap-valued players worth the dime. Here are the non-tender nominees projected by the MLB arbitration salary modeler Matt Swartz using his third projection method.
