Sports can be surprising sometimes. The plays, the shots, the calls, and everything is a wrap for a good sports game.

In other instances, sports can be attributed to something weird or new knowledge that we find shocking.

If you are a fan of strange things, happenings, or events, this list of amazing and unbelievable sports facts is for you.

1. Animal parts are used to make sports equipment.

You've been warned. If you are an animal lover, you will find this first fact unsatisfying. In making strings of the tennis racket, either the guts of the cows or sheep are used. Previously, it was believed that the guts came from the cats. When it comes to baseballs, horse foreskins make it amusing - and strange at the same time. Furthermore, dried cow eyeballs were used before to make golf balls.

2. The original gold medals are mostly made from Sterling Silver.

A misnomer fact in the process is what makes it more interesting. The Olympic Games medal will lead you to believe that they were gold when they were molded using sterling silver. Surprisingly, the gold composition of the Olympic medal in the Rio Olympics 2016 was only 1.34 percent.

3. Lunar Athleticism

It does not mean that you gain athleticism when moonbeams strike you. It shows that there are people who played sports when they navigate the moon. Those two are Edgar Mitchell and Alan Shephard. Later, Mitchell coined the fact as he said that it was the first lunar Olympics conducted. In all seriousness, their 1971 landing was part of scientific exploration. Mitchell used a makeshift javelin and flung it elsewhere while Shephard threw a golf ball.

4. Michaels Phelps as a lone country.

The American tanker was seen as a huge celebrity in the water after hauling 28 Olympic medals during his campaign in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is a world record in the world of swimming. As an individual, he has bagged more gold medals than several countries combined. He ousted 66 countries in his shattering record! What more could we ask for? Phelps ranked 35th in the list of all-time medal haulers in history. He is already enough to be qualified as the first person to become an independent country because of his medal run! If that will be true, that is another shocking truth!

5. The two-inch grass was green on the other side.

It was proven true. In 1949, an English tennis player was competing when a snake bit him. As a precaution, the grasses in the Wimbledon court were trimmed to 8 millimeters since then. It became the standard length of the grass starting 1995.

6. Stray from the ice

Freezing? It is ideal to keep yourself warm. However, Canadian hockey star Gordie Howe exceeds the expectations in the cold arena. He has a condition called cryophobia, an abnormal feat in cold objects and weather.

7. The NBA before

Watching the NBA on television is already tedious. Meanwhile, the NBA games before 1937 were double the excitement and sweat. After every score, the referee will do a jump ball. Imagine being a referee in a 100-point game.

8. Goodbye after seven pitches

Who would have thought that a baseball from the MLB is short-lived? In just five to seven throws, you have another baseball to wreck. It is costly, indeed.

9. Michael Jordan before basketball

Michael Jordan was a baseball pitcher in high school. Now we know why he is a fan of bullet passaes.

10. From illegal to legal

It was in 1901 when boxing became a legit sport to play. It was considered extremely dangerous sports for the athletes back then. Now, it is still dangerous after many years. Nothing has changed.
