Robert Saleh was a former San Francisco 49ers' defensive coordinator who was making a name in the NFL for his defensive plays. The recruitment of Saleh to the Jets set him as the 20th head coach to take part in the New York team's history. Now, the off-season is jumbled with various commotions regarding his signing.
Did the Jets win this offseason move with Robert Saleh?
The Good
The 41-year-old signed a five-year contract with the Jets. Unknown to others, Saleh's presence in San Francisco was felt on the defensive end. In a Bleacher report, the 49ers booked the top spot in the NFC in 2019 through Saleh's strict defensive strategies.
During that year, San Franciso ranked second in yards allowed at 281.8 and eighth in points allowed at 194. Saleh's living legacy to the 49ers was the team's second-place finish when it comes to overall defensive ranking in the league.
The New York Jets should expect more defensive sparks through Saleh, as the Arab-American coach won a Super Bowl trophy in 2013. His career with the Seattle Seahawks in 2013 spoke aloud.
Another advantage of taking Saleh into the team is his pure enthusiasm to lead his players on the field. The biggest plays at the crunch time are what makes Saleh hungry in winning.
A defensive genius, Saleh is a father-figure who continuously encourages his defensive linemen despite drawbacks, misplays, and miscommunications. The Jets will be enjoying his radiant presence as a motivator to the players.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan proved to be an effective referral for Saleh's job as a defensive coordinator. In the last four seasons with Saleh in San Francisco, Shanahan saw the potential in him - that one day, he will be leading a team in his own hands and plans.
Shanahan could talk all day about Saleh's effort to the team, and he could not see any reason how a team could reject such a passionate man.
"I don't know what's wrong with people if they don't hire him. I mean, he's as good as you can get. ... And he's going to hire the best staff. He knows about players. He knows who knows what they're talking about. Who doesn't know what they're talking about? And he also knows how to deal with people," Shanahan said in a report via ESPN.
He could have kept Saleh on his team, but he respects the time that Saleh dedicated to molding the 49ers into gradual steps of development as a group.

The Bad
Now let's talk about the disadvantage of recruiting Saleh for the Jets. Number one - he has no coaching experience.
Managing a group of defensive-minded people is different from coaching the whole squad of both defensive and offensive players. For Saleh, he has no prior experience in coaching the entire team, leading to his ability to lack or solely focus on safeguarding the ball.
It's another story if you will analyze, given that the Jets need a strong statement next season after only winning two games under Adam Gase. The reliance on full creativity and smart execution is what Saleh should carve for the Jets. He will now handle the coaching staff, but is he already ready for the pressure after a big loss or a big win?
The second and last con of having Saleh in the team is his priority for roles. Since he is an expert in handling defensive tackles and safeties, he could miss a crucial play when lecturing a quarterback, which is the most crucial football position.
It could be frightening if the quarterbacks' talent will not be exposed and used in full throttle. Saleh has to figure things out with GM Joe Douglas, who can seek the missing key especially in the offensive side of the Jets. Seriously, the Jets should add a grand arsenal for their quarterbacks' development.
According to NBC, Saleh is the first Muslim to land a head-coaching job in the NFL.
