DeMarcus Cousins, a four-time NBA All-Star, has been making public pleas for a return to the league since the preseason. After failing to secure a roster spot with an NBA team, Cousins has decided to sign with the Guaynabo Mets, a professional basketball team in Puerto Rico, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Cousins, who is 32 years old, last played during the 2021-22 season for the Denver Nuggets where he averaged 8.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 31 games. One of his standout performances with the Nuggets was a 31-point game in March 2022, winning against the Houston Rockets, where he also recorded 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, and 1 block.

Cousins has 11 years of NBA experience, having played for the Kings, Pelicans, Warriors, Rockets, Clippers, and Bucks. Despite some recent injuries, Cousins believes he should be playing in the NBA.
Last October, it was reported that Cousins was "just asking for a chance" to show his growth. A month later, he expressed interest in rejoining the Sacramento Kings. Cousins worked out for the Los Angeles Lakers in January, but the team ultimately signed Tristan Thompson instead.
In a recent public appearance, Cousins spoke about his efforts to make it back to the league, finding ways to improve his game. However, despite his public petitions and determination, Cousins has struggled to get honest feedback from former teams, often receiving sugar-coated responses instead. In a conversation with Kevin Garnett on the KG Certified podcast, Cousins stated that he is "waiting around" for teams to give him a call.
By signing with the Guaynabo Mets, Cousins will have the opportunity to showcase his readiness and prove that he is still a valuable player. In his conversation with Garnett, Cousins remained confident, saying he believes he is the third-best center in the league. While he may not currently have a roster spot in the NBA, Cousins is not giving up on his goal of returning to the league and making an impact. He hopes he can eventually return to the NBA by playing in Puerto Rico.
