Aaron Rodgers confirmed on mid-March that he has every intention to play for the New York Jets in the upcoming 2023 season. Five weeks since making the announcement, however, the Green Bay Packers have yet to trade him.

The fans' patience is running low, and many are growing frustrated by the massive delay of what should have been an easy deal.

Unfortunately, the Packers and Jets are still negotiating the terms of the deal, with both sides unable to agree on the kind of compensation for the veteran quarterback.

Aaron Rodgers Trade Delay

Now, according to the latest updates, the reason for the delay in trading Rodgers to the Jets remain the same: Green Bay wants a first-rounder, but the Jets want some kind of protection if ever the for the four-time MVP ends up not playing in 2024.

While the Packers believe Roders make the Jets a contender and warrants a first-round pick for that, New York remains concerned about the 39-year-old's commitment beyond the 2023 campaign.

According to the latest updates, the Packers want the Jets' 2024 first-round pick, while New York prefers a conditional pick that starts as a second-rounder and can become a first-rounder if certain conditions are met, per the New York Post.

It remains to be seen if the two sides will be able to pull off a deal, though time is running out with the 2023 NFL Draft set to start on Thursday. Many see it as a deadline for the Aaron Rodgers trade to come to fruition, and both teams may have to come back to the drawing board if they don't agree by that time.

For what it's worth, Rodgers may have played a role in delaying his trade to the Jets. As rumored recently, the QB allegedly sent signals to the New York organization to just wait it out until Green Bay gives in to their demands.

Fans will have to be patient a little bit more when it comes to the deal. Perhaps we'll know more come the draft.
