The New York Knicks secured their first playoff series win in ten years, defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 5 with a final score of 106-95, ultimately concluding the series with a standing of 4-1.

However, the victory was not without some concerning developments. All-Star forward Julius Randle re-injured his left ankle during the game, an issue he had been dealing with since before the start of the postseason.

Before his earlier injury, Randle had not missed a single game for the Knicks, having played in all 77 games leading up to the end of the regular season.

In Game 5, Randle's injury occurred when he landed on the foot of Cavaliers wing Caris LeVert while contesting a shot. Although he had been playing well before the injury, with 13 points, six assists, and four rebounds in just 16 minutes of action, Randle was forced to leave the game and head to the locker room for treatment.

He did not return for the remainder of the first half, and it was announced during halftime that he was doubtful to return.

Later in the game, Randle was seen on the sidelines in street clothes, indicating that he would not be returning to the court. Despite the injury, the Knicks still secured their victory over the Cavaliers, earning a spot in the second round of the playoffs.
